Brookwood soccer teams honored with awards
THOMASVILLE — The 2017 season was a successful one for Brookwood’s boys and girls soccer teams, and players on each squad were recently honored with all-region and in-house awards. The boys came into the year with a good amount of players that were new to the game of soccer. That team had six representatives on the GISA Region 3-3A all-region team: Tyler Clark, Preston Young, Will Ladson, Christopher Watt, Gabe Buckley and Eduardo Morales.
The young girls team had a breakthrough season after a rebuilding phase during the last two years. Morgan Burns, Honey Balfour, Holland Walker and Mollie Vick were all selected to the girls all-region team.
Walker, a freshman, was selected as the region’s girls player of the year after a season with 19 goals and seven assists.
Both teams also received some honorable mentions. For the girls, Mazie Barrett, Madelyn Murphy, Allie Beadles, Peyton Middleton and Jordan Burns made the cut. On the boys side, Marshall Jones, Jonathan Burns, Vincent Yokley, Rhodes Heath and Bridger Middleton were selected.
Along with the region awards, Brookwood’s coaches gave out some postseason honors as well. The Warriors gave offensive player of the year awards to Walker and Ladson, with the latter scoring 11 goals with two assists during his senior year.
Head coach Eddie Foy and his staff also handed out awards for defensive player of the year (Tyler Clark and Morgan Burns), most improved player (Marshall Jones and Briana Beach) and young player of the year for standout eighth graders (Eduardo Morales and Jordan Burns). Player of the year awards went to Mollie Vick and Preston Young.
Finally, the Warriors presented character awards, named for assistant coaches Richard Slaney and Alyssa Denton. Christopher Watt and Natalie Tyler were this year’s recipients.
