Brookwood presents this year's musical, Seussical!

THOMASVILLE: Brookwood School’s band of talented actors are preparing for their upcoming musical
presentation of Seussical.

This year’s all-school musical features famous Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and JoJo.

The Cat in the Hat, played by junior Isaac Nunnally, shares Horton the Elephant’s story of discovery, loyalty, and community. “Seussical is not just a school play,” says Nunnally. “Seussical is a meaningful story full of life lessons, humor, and fun.”

The production consists of several groups and ensembles spanning all school divisions. From Sneetches and Wockets to Nooks and Barbaloots, the colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

Among others, bringing the fun to the stage is Director Mr. Jimmy Kontos and Guest Choreographer Ms. Tara Lynn Steele.

Ms. Steele, a professional performer and dance instructor from New York, is transforming the stage into a Seussian circus full of acrobats. Lead performers can be found on aerial silks and lyras.

“It has been a wonderful experience to see our students practice and prepare for this show! This production is especially intricate for our young actors with singing, choreography, and, for some, aerial work,” stated Headmaster, Dr. Randy Watts. “I have always appreciated how Brookwood’s All-School Musical welcomes students into the world of professional theater; the education, as well as the production, are top-notch.”

Sophomore Miriam Simmons will portray Gertrude McFuzz in her 11th school musical. “This character is relatable to many people,” she says. “She sends the powerful lesson that being a follower usually causes more harm than good.”

Simmons says the show is a must see. “Not only are the bright and colorful props, sets, and costumes sure to wow the whole audience, but there are a lot of great life lessons to be learned from the musical. [Seussical] is packed with jokes that are sure to send the whole audience roaring with laughter.”

Brookwood’s production of Seussical will take place at the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium on Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4, both at 8:00 p.m. There will also be a Sunday, February 5 matinee performance at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available now and can be purchased using the following link:
