Basketball Teams Highlight All-Region Teams, Squires Named Region Player of the Year and All-State

After successful seasons where both teams finished as Region AAA-3 runner-ups and won 1st Round Playoff games at home, Brookwood Basketball was rewarded with postseason accolades Monday afternoon. In total, five Lady Warriors and three Warriors were named AAA-3 All-Region and Ella Grace Squires earned AAA Girls All-State.

Squires was named All-State for the second season in a row. The Lady Warriors’ defensive anchor led all of GISA in blocked shots with 135 for the season, finishing second in the state of Georgia and 14th in the nation. Squires was also voted the AAA-3 Region’s Player of the Year. She will continue her basketball career next season at Covenant College.

Eliza Eiford, Rayne Deese, Jadyn Hester, and Maddie Duncan join Squires on the AAA-3 All-Region team. Eiford knocked down 58 3-pointers on the season, good for third in all of GISA classifications. Her 34.1% shooting from behind the arc was best in the GISA. Hester recorded 87 assists on the season, facilitating the Lady Warriors offense. The Lady Warriors graduate four All-Region seniors in Squires, Eiford, Deese, and Hester. Duncan, a Sophomore, will be expected to lead next year’s team as a Junior. Freshman Ainsley Jacobson was named Honorable Mention All-Region. Todd Webb was named AAA-3 Region Coach of the Year.

On the boys side, the Warriors claimed three All-Region spots after finishing as the regular season’s #2–seed and the Region Tournament runner-up. Senior Kelton Lewis, Junior Chris May, and Freshman Emery Redrupp earned AAA-3 All-Region as the trio essentially tied as leading scorers in Brookwood’s balanced attack.

Lewis, a face-up Forward who made 42 3-pointers on the season, finished averaging 10.8 points and led Brookwood with 6 rebounds per contest. May, a primary playmaker and shooter for the Warriors, averaged 11.4 points while shooting 38% from behind the arc. Redrupp had a breakout Freshman season as an inside-out threat, averaging 11.3 points and 5 rebounds. Sophomores Rodge Waldrop and TJ Thomas were named Honorable Mention All-Region, both starting almost every game and keying the Warriors’ defense.

Squires, Eiford, Hester, Deese, and Lewis will all participate in the GISA All-Star Game this weekend in Macon, with Webb coaching one of the Girls teams.
