Warrior Soccer Finishes with Region, State Honors

The Brookwood Boys Soccer team had a hot finish to their season, ripping off a 9-game winning streak and claiming the Region title en route to a GISA Quarterfinal appearance. After a slow start to the season against a tough schedule, which included the likes of Thomasville, Colquitt County, Valdosta High, and a win over Cairo the Warriors found their stride.

Their 9-game winning streak spanning March 20th through May 5th included victories over Worth County, rival Deerfield-Windsor, Berrien High, and two shutout wins over Region rival Valwood to claim the program’s third Region title since 2016. A high scoring 5-2 win over Young Americans Christian at Warrior Stadium in the 1st Round of the GISA Playoffs put Brookwood in the Quarterfinal against traditional power Westminster of Augusta. Brookwood led 1-0 until the closing minutes of regulation and suffered a tough 2-1 defeat in overtime.

Eight members of the team earned All-Region recognition, including six seniors the Warriors must replace. Emmett Miles, Robert Gallagher, Nathan Yokley, Tyson Joyner, Benjamin Filston, and goalkeeper Fincher Davis each were voted All-Region to cap their high school careers. Gallagher will go on to play at Pensacola Christian College, while Joyner will continue his soccer career at Andrew College. Will Porter and Cutter Waldrep, both Juniors who will return next year as Senior leaders, were also voted All-Region.

Emmett Miles, who led a Warriors defense from the backline that had five shutouts on the season, was named the AAA-3 Region Player of the Year.

At the State level, Miles and Gallagher were both voted GISA All-State by coaches from the association. Gallagher led the Warriors in goals, netting 11, and also dished six assists.

Coach Eddie Foy commented, “The Boys soccer team this year was one of the best squads since I have been here as the head coach. Each player was dedicated from day one to achieve our goals. We won the region this year without conceding a goal. This is our 3rd region championship in 5 years. I am very proud of the hard work and effort we put in each day to make this goal possible. The leadership from our seniors was outstanding, the best I have had the pleasure to work with. They will be sorely missed. I am excited to keep building and go again next year.”
