Brookwood Seniors Sign to Play Collegiately

Five more Brookwood Warrior seniors signed to play their respective sports collegiately on Tuesday morning, bringing Brookwood's total for the Class of 2021 to seven who will compete at the next level.

Josh McCaskill, Harper McLendon, Parker Mirick, Callan Walker, and Nathan Yokley were honored in front of family and fellow students to make their next steps official.

McCaskill will play baseball at Covenant College located in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The Scots compete as a member of NCAA Division III in the USA South Conference. McCaskill has played a little bit of everywhere on the diamond for the Warriors, but has found a consistent home at First Base this year. His bat has been a solid presence in the middle of the order, adding power as he's gotten older. He hit a homerun Friday night in the Warriors' 8-3 win over Deerfield-Windsor.

McLendon will play baseball at Tallahassee Community College, just across the state line in Florida. The Eagles compete as a member of the NJCAA in the Panhandle Conference. McLendon has been used at multiple positions at Brookwood. As a Senior this year, he's been a key starter on the mound in the Warriors' deep rotation and a solid shortstop defensively. Earlier this season, McLendon pitched a complete game shutout against Terrell Academy where he struck out 17 and allowed just one hit.

Mirick will play baseball at Andrew College in Cuthbert, Georgia. The Tigers compete as a member of the NJCAA in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. Mirick has been a starting pitcher on the mound and at third base for the Warriors this season. He is 1-0 in three starts this season. So far in his 17 1/3 innings pitched this year, Mirick has only given up 2 earned runs - sporting an ERA of 0.81 for the season so far.

Callan Walker will shoot on the Sporting Clays team at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. The Eagles recently launched a competition shotgun team in the Fall of 2020 and compete in ACUI events throughout the South. Their home is a 30,000 square foot facility that attracts sporting clays athletes from throughout the region. Walker was instrumental in building the Warriors' Clay Target program, competing throughout his high school career.

Nathan Yokley will continue his football career at the University of Chicago. The Maroons compete as a member of NCAA Division III in the Midwest Conference for Football. One of the most prestigious academic institutions in the country, the University of Chicago football program has a storied history that includes the famous coach Amos Alonzo Stagg. Yokley was easy to notice all over the field for the Warriors this Fall, playing both ways as a Wide Receiver and a Cornerback. He also had a tremendous impact on special teams with kicking responsibilities. He led the GISA AAA-3 region in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He finished the year as the Region's Co-Player of the Year, an All-Region, and AAA All-State selection.

These five Warriors join two other Brookwood seniors, Jack Boltja and Jacob Lauderdale, who signed earlier this school year. Boltja will play collegiate golf at Georgia Southern University while Lauderdale will play baseball at Coastal Carolina University, making seven Brookwood student-athletes going on to play at the next level in Division I, Division III, and Junior College.
