Brookwood Basketball Racks Up Awards. Ledford & Squires All-State, Six on All-Region

After successful seasons, Brookwood’s Girls and Boys Basketball programs had multiple players honored in postseason awards. For the third consecutive year, each team landed a player on the AAA All-State team in GISA.

Junior Ella Grace Squires earned AAA All-State on the girls team after finishing second in the state, regardless of classification, in blocked shots and 13th nationally in the category. Squires led the team in blocked shots this season and second in scoring and rebounding. The Junior Forward was a key component of the Warrior’s defensive design, protecting the paint and the rim.

Sophomore Garrett Ledford was named AAA All-State on the boys team after leading the Warriors in scoring and rebounding on the season, averaging over 12 points and 6 rebounds per game, while finishing second on the team in assists. His 25 points on 12-of-15 shooting in the Warriors’ win against Frederica Academy during the 1st Round of the state playoffs was a career high. Ledford finished the season shooting over 55% from the field.

Senior Jack Boltja joined Ledford on the AAA-3 All-Region selections for Brookwood’s boys. Boltja led the Region champions in assists at 4 per game and was their second leading scorer and rebounder with 10 points and 5 rebounds per game. He scored the game winning basket in the Region Semifinal against Valwood, the first of three straight last-minute post-season wins for Brookwood.

Seniors Erin Lewis, Ann Murray Jackson, and Jordan Burns joined Squires on the Girls AAA-3 All-Region team. The three seniors were all multiple-year starters and major contributors throughout their careers, including last year’s state title. Lewis provided excellent outside shooting, finishing Top-30 in the state, regardless of classification, individually in made 3-pointers two straight years and was this season’s leading scorer for the team. Jackson returned from last year’s injury to give more post presence, leading the team in rebounding and second in blocked shots. Burns was a versatile leader for the Lady Warriors on both ends of the court, finishing second on the team in assists and steals.

On the boys side, Senior Dallas Forsyth and Junior Kelton Lewis were named to AAA-3’s All-Region Honorable Mention. Forsyth hit the game-winning 3-pointer over Southland Academy in the Region Championship, followed a few days later by Lewis’s game-winning 3-pointer over Frederica Academy in the 1st Round. Lewis returns next season after a strong finish to the year, scoring 17 points against Creekside Christian in the Quarterfinals.

The Lady Warriors had Juniors Jadyn Hester, Eliza Eiford, and Rayne Deese named Honorable Mention All-Region. The three will return with Squires next year in expanded roles for the Lady Warriors as Seniors.
