Warriors to end 2020 regular schedule with a non-stop stretch
THOMASVILLE Brookwood’s 2020 regular season football slate starts with three of its four games at home, includes a three-game road trip midway through the year on Oct. 2 to Oct. 16 and closes with GISA Region 3-AAA games with Tiftarea, Valwood and Southland.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had a schedule where there were going to be so many toss-up games,” Brookwood coach Shane Boggs said. “We’ve just got so many games that I suspect are going to be four-quarter, down-to-thelast drive type of games. From that perspective, it’s a great schedule.”
Brookwood opens on Aug. 28 at home against Lafayette, who will finally have a new quarterback after Jaxson Beach graduated and moved on to Valdosta State. Brookwood will travel to Maclay (Fla.) the following week before hosting Briarwood and Terrell in back-to-back weeks on Sept. 18 and Sept. 25. The schedule’s biggest challenge comes in October, though, when the Warriors play four of five games on the road, including three straight to Tattnall Square Academy, Edmund Burke and SGA. All are long road trips for the Warriors. Edmund Burke is located in Waynesboro, more than four hours away from Thomasville. Tattnall Square is in Macon, about 2.5 hours away, and SGA is located in Damascus, about an hour and 15 minute trip from Thomasville, Georgia.

Tattnall Square, which is in GHSA, is coached by Chance Jones, son of Ronnie Jones, who won two state titles in the 1980s at Brookwood. After a home game with
Tiftarea on Oct. 23, the Warriors conclude the month with a trip to region favorite Valwood.
Brookwood ends the season at home Nov. 6 against Southland Academy.
Brookwood only has one open week after the season begins. The bye week is Sept. 11, which means the Warriors will play eight straight to end the season. “I don’t think any football coach in America would have got out of bed and said, ‘Let’s design the schedule to have that one open,”’ Boggs said. “With that being said, as ideal as it would have been to have your open week be somewhere around Oct. 2, not everybody can have that day. Playing eight straight is probably not what we dreamed of.” The Warriors have an open week Aug. 21 between its scrimmage and regular season opener. Boggs said his team would be open to playing that week if the right opportunity presented itself.
Brookwood’s preseason scrimmage is scheduled for Aug. 14 at home against Seminole County.
