Baseball Dominant, Wins 12-2 in Home Opener over SGA

Brookwood Baseball improved to 1-1 on the young season, taking a 12-2 victory over Southwest Georgia Academy in the 2020 home opener Monday afternoon. Brookwood only needed six innings to take the mercy rule win over their visitors from Demascus.

Parker Mirick got the start on the mound, throwing 3 innings and striking out 6. Harper McLendon came on in relief to pitch the final 3 innings and he struck out 7 SGA batters himself. The two combined to scatter just 2 hits and 5 walks across their 6 innings of work. The Warrior defense behind them played without an error on the night.

At the plate, Brookwood made the most of their 6 hits and took advantage of a sloppy SGA defense which committed 6 errors. Brookwood was patient in the batter's box, working for 8 walks. Nick Knifer and Mirick each had 2 RBI. Marcus West, JP Chapman, and Zack Counts each hit a double.

The Warriors won't have another Varsity contest until next Tuesday, March 3rd when they host Maclay School at Strickland Field on campus here in Thomasville. It will be a rematch of last week's season opener, when the Marauders took a 5-3 game in Tallahassee.
