Boys Basketball Back-to-Back Region Champs!

Brookwood Boys Basketball won its second consecutive Region Tournament late Friday night in Americus at Georgia Southwestern University! After defeating Valwood in the Semifinal, Brookwood took on Southland in the Championship game.

Region Semifinal
Valwood led 31-28 at halftime. A back and forth 3rd Quarter saw Brookwood take 46-44 lead going into final frame. A 14-3 Warrior run to start the 4th Quarter put the game out of reach with Brookwood up, 60-47. Valwood made a late surge but Brookwood held on to advance to Friday's championship. Dallas Forsyth led with 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers on the night and three of those makes in the pivotal 3rd Quarter. Harrison Owens scored 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field and grabbed 7 rebounds. All 9 Warriors who checked in the game scored, as Brookwood shot 57% as a team in the contest.

Region Championship
A made 3-pointer by Harrison Owens just before halftime gave Brookwood momentum going into the lockerroom, up 21-20. Both teams worked their way to the free throw line in a 3rd Quarter which saw 6 lead changes and 4 ties. Trailing 27-29, JP Chapman found Garrett Ledford open in transition for a corner 3-pointer to put the Warriors ahead 30-29 with 2 minutes left in the 3rd Quarter. Jacob Hilson's layup at the buzzer, off another Chapman assist, put Brookwood up 36-31 going into the 4th Quarter. On Brookwood's first possession of 4th Quarter, Ledford spotted Harrison Owens running the court for an easy 2 in transition to put Brookwood up 38-31 and in control of the game. A frustrated Southland Academy was called for a flagrant foul and two technicals, allowing JP Chapman to go shoot 6 free throws at the line. Chapman made 3 of his attempts, putting Brookwood up 41-31. From there, Brookwood defended, rebounded, and took care of the ball to run away with the game, winning by 19. Chapman finished with 22 points, Harrison Owens poured in 15 on 6-of-6 shooting.

The Warriors host #4 Westminster School (Augusta) on Wednesday in the 1st Round of the GISA AAA Playoffs in the Beverly Athletic Center. The 6:00 p.m. game will be #2 Creekside Christian vs. #3 Bulloch Academy.
