Brookwood inducts 32 into National Honor Society

Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Staff Report
THOMASVILLE - Some 32 new members were inducted into the Louise Jeanes Hines Chapter of the National Honor Society at Brookwood School on Tuesday. Students in grades 11 and 12 who demonstrate scholarship, service, leadership and character — the four pillars of the National Honor Society — are eligible for membership.
Students must meet or exceed high GPA standards for induction. Additionally, they must demonstrate a pattern of service to the school and local community. They must also demonstrate leadership and strong character.
The ceremony, one of the oldest traditions at Brookwood, has remained essentially the same since 1973, when the school’s first NHS members were inducted. The students who have been selected for induction remain a secret until the ceremony, during which teachers place a special wooden key around each “tapped” student’s neck. The key bears the name of numerous NHS members throughout the school’s history. This year, several inductees wore keysthat included the names of their alumni siblings or parents.
“The ceremony is steeped in tradition, thereby honoring all of Brookwood’s National Honor Society Members throughout the years, and celebrating the new inductees,” stated Headmaster Dr. Randy Watts. “Our NHS ceremony is unique and special. I am proud of our students, who have held themselves to a high standard and are being recognized accordingly.”
From the class of 2020, new National Honor Society members are Mathew Ambrose, Sam Barrett, J.P. Chapman, Bradley Cohen, Aidan Crawford, Emily Deese, Lydia Knox, Cole Ostrom, Riley Pollock, Kate Porter, and Kelley Richardson.
