Brookwood to host Michael G. Thompson, Ph.D.

Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Staff Report
THOMASVILLE -
Bestselling author Dr. Michael G. Thompson will speak at Brookwood School on Tuesday, September 24 at 5:30 p.m., in an
event that is open to the public. Thompson is a clinical psychologist and the author of nine books on the subjects of children,
schools, and parenting, including the New York Times best-seller Raising Cain.

“This is an awesome opportunity for our parents and our community to learn from a nationally-renowned speaker and
author,” says Mrs. Allison Harrell, Brookwood School Counselor. “He’s an expert in his field, and I think the insight that he
shares will be invaluable.”

In addition to the evening event for parents, Thompson will also be speaking at assemblies for Brookwood’s middle- and
upper-school students.

“I’m really excited about the student assemblies,” Harrell says, “because the knowledge that he’ll be able to give them will
complement what he’s talking about with the parents.”

Over the course of his 35-year career, Thompson has worked with thousands of parents, children, teachers, and school
administrators. His work has primarily been in helping educators and parents understand the emotional development and
psychology of children, so they can better help their young charges grow.

In the presentation, entitled “Raising Responsible Children,” Thompson will draw from his own experience as a clinical
psychologist, as well as research on parenting styles and outcomes, to explore how parents can help their children develop an
internal foundation for moral behavior.

The public is invited to attend this event, which will be held on Tuesday, September 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in
Hines-Watt Hall on the Brookwood School campus.
