Waters retires after 23 years

Thomasville Times-Enterprise
This year, one of Brookwood’s pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten teachers Susan Waters is retiring after twenty-three years of service. Lower School Head Mrs. Jennifer Newcombe said, “Susan has demonstrated a true passion for educating young children and has dedicated her career to Brookwood School. In each of her days, she shared the love of learning and inspired her students to be their very best. Mrs. Waters created a loving, enriching environment for hundreds of children over her career. She has mentored colleagues, parents, and children with grace and humor. Susan's beautiful smile, Christian spirit, and love for Brookwood School will be greatly missed!”

Brookwood Headmaster Dr. Randy Watts stated,” Susan Waters embodies Brookwood Spirit. She has been connected with the school since the beginning, is a Brookwood graduate, and has been an outstanding teacher at Brookwood for the past twenty-three years. She has touched the lives of so many children, many of them who are now adults with children of their own. While she will be missed, her legacy will forever be a part of this school.”

Many of her previous students were eager to share their memories of Mrs. Waters and the personal impact she has had on them; a selection of them are shared below:

“Thank you, Mrs. Waters, for all that you have done for me as well as the countless other students who hold this institution dear. Brookwood is known for producing intelligent, honorable, and self-reliant young men and women. It is your enthusiasm for teaching [that] continues to light the spark for these virtues.” - Chase Flowers, class of 2014

“I was so excited to have Mrs. Waters as a teacher! My favorite memory was celebrating International Day and learning all about Japan. I still remember how to count to 10 and always say that as my random fact about myself when people ask me. Thank you so much Mrs. Waters for being such an amazing teacher!! Your years of dedication to your students will never be forgotten.” – Maggie Deaver, class of 2016
