Baseball Beats Tiftarea 5-4 to Finish Week Strong

The Warrior Baseball team took Game 2 of the week against the Tiftarea Panthers, using a big 3rd Inning to take the lead and later hold on for a 5-4 Region win. For a full recap, click here!
The Warriors fell behind 1-0 early, courtesy of a Tiftarea sacrifice fly in the top half of the 1st inning to open the scoring.

After a Brandon Prudhomme solo homerun stretched the Panther lead to 2-0 in the Top 3rd, the Warrior bats woke up in a big way in the bottom half.

A four-run inning got going on the strength of a Harper McClendon double down the left field line. After Lance Wortman was hit by a pitch, Jacob Lauderdale kept the momentum going with a double of his own to score McClendon from 2nd and move Wortman to 3rd. Joe Parker's single scored Wortman to tie the score at 2-2. Marcus West immediately scored Jacob Lauderdale from 3rd on a fielder's choice. Josh McCaskill gave the crowd one more big play to cheer about in the inning, with the Warriors' third double of the inning to score Parker.

The Panthers responded with two doubles of their own in the Top 4th, taking back a run and bringing the score to a 4-3 Brookwood lead.

In the Bottom 5th, Jacob Lauderdale singled, stole 2nd, and reached 3rd on a fielder's choice. Some clutch hitting from Marcus West provided a much needed insurance run with his RBI single to score Lauderdale.

In the Top 6th, a specatular Warrior defensive play ended a Panther threat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Harper McClendon made a catch in deep left field and threw it to Marcus West manning 3rd base to apply the tag for the double play as a Panther tried to move up 90 feet. The play was ruled a sacrifice fly for the Panthers as the runner from 3rd touched home plate just in time.

With the Warriors threatening but unable to score in the Bottom 6th, it came down to the defense to finish the game in the Top 7th.

Nic Lauderdale and Joe Parker switched positions, with Lauderdale coming on in relief to pitch and Parker going to play short. The moved worked out well. The first out of the inning was a grounder up the middle to Parker's left and the senior made a nice snag and throw to 1st. First Baseman JP Chapman was pulled slightly off the bag but still was able to apply the tag on the runner. The second out came via a popup in the infield, as 8th Grader Zack Counts came out of his catcher's stance and confidently called off everyone else for the catch. The ball found Chapman again to end it, as the First Baseman made a highlight catch in foul territory near the fence to end the game with a final score of 5-4.

The win pulls Brookwood to 1-1 in Region play after splitting with the Panthers this week. They will return to action next week, playing Florida High on Monday in a neutral site game at Valdosta High. The Region opponent next week is Deerfield-Windsor. The Warriors will host Tuesday and travel to Albany on Friday.
