Brookwood students ready for Empty Bowls

Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Staff Report
THOMASVILLE —On Friday, February 1, Brookwood School students will once again host a simple soup dinner as a fundraiser for Empty Bowls, Full Hearts. Since 2017, students have planned, organized, and hosted this event to make others aware of local hunger issues. The simple soup supper is a tangible reminder that hunger is present in our backyards as well as worldwide. Students, along with faculty assistance, will prepare and serve vegetarian southwestern vegetable soup and a chicken and rice soup. Bread donated by Flowers Foods will accompany the soup.
Along with the food, students from the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools will have hand-thrown clay bowls on display during the event. Donations are accepted at the door, and bowls may also be purchased to support the event. Proceeds will be donated to Backpack Buddies, a local ministry that provides meals for almost 900 hungry children in Thomas County each weekend. Since Empty Bowls began at Brookwood, students have donated $5,500 to Backpack Buddies.
A donation of $10 per meal is encouraged — the amount that feeds a child for a month in the Backpack Buddies Program.
The gallery of bowls will be on display beginning at 3 p.m. in the multi-purpose room in Brookwood’s Beverly Athletic Center. Soup will be served in an open house from 5-7 p.m., concurrent with a night of basketball; the Brookwood Warriors will play Southland’s Raiders in junior varsity, varsity girls, and varsity boys’ games.
