Warrior Hoops Sweeps Valwood, Preps for Senior Night Friday

The two Brookwood basketball programs went on the road Tuesday night and came home with runaway victories.

The Lady Warriors started the evening with a dominant first half, using their full-court press to speed up the tempo. Defense and rebounding ignited the offense, as Brookwood was attacking the rim in transition from the tip to aid a 27-5 run in the second quarter and control a 50-17 halftime lead. Eleven players appeared in the scoring column, while Holland Walker was perfect from the field in scoring her 13 points. Erin Lewis and Jordan Thompson each scored 10, primarily in the first half. Ella Grace Squires and Christy James, both freshmen, saw significant minutes and each grabbed 10 rebounds in the 69-31 win.

Brookwood will play host to Southland Academy for Senior Night this Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with Jordan Thompson, the team's lone senior, to be honored after the game.

Seeding for next week's Region Tournament is locked on the Girls side. Even with a Brookwood victory against the Lady Raiders (6-1), Southland will enter next week's tournament as the 1-seed. Brookwood is guaranteed to play the Lady Knights of Deerfield-Windsor in Thursday's first semifinal game at Georgia Southwestern University. The two split the regular season meetings, with Brookwood dominant in a 69-40 home victory in the Beverly Athletic Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

In Boys action last night, the Warriors featured a balanced scoring attack in the paint and from beyond the three-point line. Harrison Owens' three-pointer at the buzzer to go into halftime put the Warriors ahead for good with a 42-26 lead. Brookwood was intent on pushing the pace offensively and it showed in the 86-51 win. All five starters reached double figures in the scoring column, the type of balance the Warriors have focused on having throughout the year. Owens and JP Chapman led the way with 19 and 16 points respectively. Sam Barrett (14), Jack Boltja (13), and Kurtis Brown (12) made the Warriors difficult to guard from all five spots.

Brookwood will play host to Southland Academy for Senior Night this Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. with Kurtis Brown, Jacob Atkinson, and Zack Milberg to be honored before the game.

With a win Friday, Brookwood (5-2) can capture the #1 seed in next week's Region Tournament.
