Basketball Continues to Protect Home Court, Eyes Region Championships

The Warriors and Lady Warriors basketball programs won convincingly last night as they hosted Tiftarea Academy. The two wins were both decided with aggressive, momentum-filled scoring runs in the first half. With last night's victories, both teams are now 3-0 in Region home games in the Beverly Athletic Center.

The Warriors rolled by a final score of 61-41, improving to 7-2 in their last 9 games with the two losses by a combined total of just three points.

It was a 21-4 spurt in the second quarter which sparked the rout, flipping a 14-15 deficit into a 35-19 halftime lead. Brookwood's pressure defense forced numerous Panther turnovers to create transition offense. Sam Barrett led the Warriors with 17 points and Kurtis Brown netted 10. Nine different Brookwood players contributed in the scoring column, with all twelve who dressed playing significant minutes.

The Warriors are now 4-1 in AAA Region-3 and travel to Deerfield (4-2 in Region play) on Friday for a contest with first-place implications on the line.

In girls action, the Lady Warriors started the night with a Region win of their own to improve to 3-2 in AAA Region-3. A sharpshooting first half for Erin Lewis jumpstarted the Lady Warriors. The sophomore had 18 points at halftime, helping build a 30-16 Brookwood advantage. Lewis finished with 20 points and Jordan Thompson chipped in 19 points of her own in the dominant 57-23 win.

The win moves the Lady Warriors to 3-2 in Region play. Up next is an opportunity Friday night at 5-1 Deerfield to capture the important head-to-head sweep against the Lady Knights and regain control of the Region.
