Baseball Holds On Against Maclay, Wins 7-6

Brookwood Baseball improved to 2-1 on the season with a 7-6 win over Maclay, exacting some revenge on the two teams' previous meeting in Tallahassee.

Harper McLendon started on the mound and scattered 5 hits through his 6.2 innings, nearly throwing a complete game.

The Warrior offense started hot, scoring in each of its first four innings at the plate. Jacob Lauderdale's RBI triple started the scoring in the Bottom 1st.

Zack Counts had a great day with the bat, going 3-3 and earning a walk. His solo homerun in the Bottom of the 3rd stretched the Brookwood lead to 5-2. The Warriors scored another run later in the 3rd and tacked on one more in the bottom of the 4th, building a 7-2 lead.

Brookwood was patient at the plate on the day, drawing 9 walks as a team including 3 by Parker Mirick.

Things got dicey for Brookwood late, as a Maclay rally in the Top of the 7th put the game in doubt. The Marauders scored 4 and put the tieing run on base. Mirick came on in relief for Brookwood to strike out the last batter and secure the win.

Brookwood is now 2-1 on the season and will travel to play at Southwest Georgia Academy on Friday afternoon. Region play starts next week with a three game series against Tiftarea Academy.
