Brookwood Basketball Sweeps Valwood on Road

Brookwood Basketball went on the road for Region contests for the second time in 48 hours Thursday night, coming away with two victories at rival Valwood.

The Lady Warriors ran away with the early game in dominating fashion, leading 28-8 at the end of the 1st Quarter and 41-17 at halftime. Brookwood cruised in the second half to win 64-23. It was a balanced effort for the Lady Warrior roster, as no one needed to play more than 15 minutes in the game. Mollie Vick had 4 assists, 5 steals, and 0 turnovers on the night. Christy James led in rebounding with 6. The aggressive Lady Warrior defense forced 37 Valwood turnovers and unselfish offense tallied 16 assists. Brookwood improved to 2-1 in Region play.

The Boys game was much tighter throughout. Sloppy Brookwood finishes to the 2nd and 3rd Quarters allowed Valwood to shrink double-digit Warrior leads in each frame. Brookwood led 26-20 at Halftime and 47-45 going into the 4th Quarter. In a game that featured multiple momentum swings, Brookwood made enough plays down the stretch to win. Trailing 56-57, Sam Barrett knocked down the go-ahead three pointer off a Harrison Owens assist with less than a minute to go. On the ensuing possession, Owens made a steal and was immediately fouled. The Senior swished both free throws to put the Warriors up 4, 61-57, with 16 seconds left. Another Owens steal finished the game on the next possession.

Barrett finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. Owens scored 14 to go with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Sophomore Kelton Lewis chipped in 12 points and freshman Garrett Ledford tallied 11. Brookwood is now 3-0 in Region play.

Brookwood hosts Berrien High School in the Beverly Athletic Center next Tuesday. Girls tip-off is at 6:00 p.m. with Boys game to follow.
