Baseball Victorious over Valwood, Gains Ground in Region

Tuesday night's 7-1 win for the Baseball Warriors at rival Valwood could prove big come playoff time. The win improves Brookwood to 3-2 in Region play and dropped Valwood to 3-4.

The Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the Top of the 1st before Valwood could even step to the plate. After the Valiants took a run back to make it a 3-1 game in the Bottom of the 4th, the Warriors responded with 4 runs in the Top of the 5th to expand the lead and give the game's 7-1 final score.

Joe Parker reached base all four at-bats, going 3-for-3 with a walk and scoring 2 runs. Josh McCaskill went 3-for-4 at the plate and came around to score 2 runs. JP Chapman reached base safely three times, two coming from patient at-bats drawing walks.

Jacob Lauderdale was solid on the mound once again, throwing 95 pitches in a complete game 2-hitter over the course of his 7 innings. He struck out 6, walked 4, and allowed the 1 earned run.

The Valiants will visit Stickland Field Friday evening for the second game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. after the JV game earlier in the day. With a win, Brookwood would lock up a playoff spot in AAA. Tied atop the jammed-pack Region Standings with Tiftarea, whom the Warriors split with, a Region Championship is still very much in the mix.
