Georgia’s STAR students and teachers honored in Atlanta
April 21, 2011

Brookwood's STAR Student Katherine Wolff and her STAR Teacher Ann Larson attended the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) STAR Banquet in Atlanta on April 18.

As a 20-county region winner, Wolff was one of 21 STAR Student Region Winner finalists in the culminating event of the STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) program, which began earlier this year with the naming of 510 STAR Students selected at each of the participating public and independent schools across the state. Ten of this year's finalists scored 2400 on one administration of the SAT, and all are in the top ten percent or top ten of their class.

Matthew Vaughan Shackelford, a senior at The Westminster Schools, is the 2011 State PAGE STAR Student. He named Tim Howard, his ninth-grade percussion methods teacher at The Westminster Schools, as his State PAGE STAR Teacher. Akshaya Suresh, a senior at Gwinnett County's Brookwood High School, is the Runner-up State PAGE STAR Student and chose Dana Kling, her 11th grade gifted language arts teacher, as her STAR Teacher.

During the past 53 years, the STAR Program has honored more than 22,000 high school seniors who have in turn chosen their STAR Teachers to share in this recognition.
