Brookwood Board of Directors Treasurer Bill Hodges, left, and Chairman, Dr. Philip Watt, right, congratulate Headmaster Mike Notaro on the college-prep school's record enrollment during a faculty reception at the Glen Arven Country Club
THOMASVILLE - Brookwood School Headmaster Mike Notaro was busy last week with students from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade returning to school, registering and beginning classes.
"Probably the question most asked of me all week has been 'How is enrollment?' Notaro said. "Well, no one could be more proud to announce that on our opening day -- students in seats -- enrollment was 495."
The headmaster said that in four out of the past five years, enrollment has increased, setting records each time.
"This amazing number, 495, is the most students enrolled in the 41-year history of the school," Notaro said.
At the beginning of school last year, Brookwood's enrollment was 471.
Notaro attributed the increased enrollment to the school's admissions and office staff, the Board of Directors, the faculty, Brookwood's success with college placement for its graduates and the "ambassadorship of all our families," including parents and students who spread the word about their experience at the independent college-prep school.
On Aug. 24, parents of Brookwood Middle and Upper School students will meet at 6:30 p.m. in Crozer Hall to learn about the school year and to meet their children's teachers.
Back to School Night for the Lower School will take place on Aug. 26. Parents of students in grades 1 and 2 will meet in their children's classrooms at 6 p.m., with all parents of students in grades 1-5 meeting in Chubb Hall at 6:30 p.m. Parents of students in grades 3-5 will have class meetings after that.
