Three students from Cairo were recognized with special awards at the end of the Brookwood School year in May.
"Our Cairo students are an important component of our enrollment," said Brookwood Headmaster Mike Notaro. "Kevin Hudson and Hunter Hinson just graduated, and were standouts scholastically, athletically and in their individual character and personal achievements. Following in their footsteps are more than three dozen students from Grady County plus students who commute from other area communities who are part of our Brookwood family."
Lauren Johnson, 11th grade and a rising senior, won the Patricia James Bullock Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship annually goes to a rising senior to partially defray tuition to Brookwood. The Upper and Middle School faculty members choose the recipient, based on the student's academic effort, integrity and character. Lauren Johnson also won the Gold Medal in economics for her top grades in the class, The Silver Medal in civics class for the second highest grade, the Merit Award for Spanish IV, and she achieved membership in the National Honor Society and was included on the Headmaster's List.
Her brother Justin Johnson won the Mr. and Mrs. Langdon S. Flowers Award as the Scholastic Leader in the 10th grade class. He won the Gold Medal in his English, world history, chemistry, algebra II and computer/writing classes for the top grade in those subjects and the Bronze Medal in Spanish III for the third highest grade. He was recognized for his service in the Student Government Association and was selected as a member of the Honor Council for 2010-2011. In addition, he was included on the Headmaster's List.
Lauren and Justin Johnson's mother is Chandra Johnson of Cairo.
Jackson Brannon, the son of John and Pamela Brannon of Cairo, served as a graduation marshal, with a grade point average among the top four GPAs in his junior class. He won the Bronze Medal in his English, Advanced Placement United States history, advanced algebra and trigonometry, and Advanced Placement biology classes. A rising senior, Brannon won the Silver Medal in his debate class, was named to the Headmaster's List, was selected for the National Honor Society and for the 2010-2011 Honor Council, in addition to being recognized for his achievements at the Literary Meet and on the Debate Team
