Graduates from Cairo honored by Brookwood School
May 25, 2010

Cairo students won two of Brookwood School's special awards at the end of the school year.

Kevin Hudson, the son of Dr. Mark and Debbie Hudson of Cairo, received the Patricia James Bullock Memorial Service Award at the graduation ceremony on May 15, one of the top two awards presented to graduating seniors. The Headmaster's Award was presented to Abby Lewis of Monticello, Fla., who also was the class valedictorian.

At Awards Day, Hunter Hinson, the son of Lofley and Barbara Hinson of Cairo, won the Stone Memorial Award, given to Upper School students who show the traits of perseverance, exceptional character and consideration toward others. Mackenzy Martin of Thomasville also won the award that was created in memory of Tommy Stone, a former Brookwood student. Hunter Hinson, who will enter the University of Alabama as a member of UA's swim team, also won the Bronze Medal in art and a Kiwanis Citizenship Award.

Kevin Hudson, who will attend Auburn University, also was recognized at Brookwood's Awards Day for being the Outstanding Senior Athlete, winning the Warrior Award, the Creativity in Math Award, and the Archbold Medical Center Award, and he was named a Rotary Student of the Month. Hudson also won the Silver Medal in Advanced Placement Calculus and the Gold Medal in Physics. A member of the National Honor Society, he served as a Student Government representative at Brookwood.

During the graduation ceremony, Hudson, as one of Brookwood's six students who graduated Summa Cum Laude with the highest grade point averages, introduced the speaker, Dr. Jacqueline Varnedoe Morgan, who graduated from Brookwood in 1979. She is now the associate dean of the Honors Program at the University of Alabama.
