Brookwood kindergarteners study Japan and its culture
May 7, 2010

INTERNATIONAL STUDIES -- One of the kindergarten classes at Brookwood School has been immersed in learning about Japan. The students of Susan Waters and Melanie Hogan demonstrated their knowledge of Japanese and the country when they invited their parents to join them in their classroom on Wednesday. All of the students participated in showing what they have learned about the language, culture and traditions of Japan.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT -- Rachel Beverly, the mother of Brookwood kindergartner Franklin, has lived and taught in Japan, so she assisted by preparing Japanese place cards for the students, who ate their snacks with chopsticks. Dad Frank Beverly, left, joined in the cultural experience.

MOTHER-DAUGHTER EXPERIENCE -- Cairo mother Meredith Redrupp, who graduated from Brookwood in 1985 when her last name was Richter, joined her daughter Kate-Ashton Redrupp for the kindergarten Japan presentation at Brookwood.

IMMERSED IN THE CULTURE -- Cairo kindergarteners wore traditional Japanese costumes when they demonstrated their language skills and knowledge of Japan to their parents. Front row:  Janie Sholar, Eliza Eiford, and Taylor Kinnard, Back row: Ben Parrott, Stuart Higdon, and Kate Ashton Redrupp.
