Brookwood Honors Assembly recognizes academic achievements of the Class of 2010
April 26, 2010

Brookwood Valedictorian Abby Lewis and Salutatorian Emily Claire Worthey are two of the six Brookwood seniors who will graduate "summa cum laude," having maintained at least a 4.0 GPA during their last four years at Brookwood. Others graduating with that highest distinction are Kevin Hudson, Anna Price Olson, Elizabeth Olson and Maria Olson.

Graduates with a "magna cum laude" designation, indicating a minimum of a 3.67 GPA, are Colin Alderman, Mickey Betters, Chris Bragg, James Farmer, Davis Flowers, Bronson Rash and Tyler Stone.

The "cum laude" graduates who have maintained a minimum of a 3.33 average for four years at Brookwood are Meredith Briscoe, Maizie Jones, Courtney Stephens, Stephen Stubley and Ashley Yaun.

Seniors who have excelled academically and creatively were recognized at the annual Honors Assembly in Crozer Hall on Thursday. In the audience were members of the junior and senior classes, as well as numerous parents.

Gold tassels, to be worn on the mortarboard academic cap at baccalaureate and commencement ceremonies, were presented to seniors who are members of the National Honor Society: Colin Alderman, Chris Bragg, Mickey Betters, Meredith Briscoe, Davis Flowers, James Farmer, Kevin Hudson, Maizie Jones, Abby Lewis, Anna Price Olson, Elizabeth Olson, Maria Olson, Bronson Rash, Stephen Stubley, Courtney Stephens, Tyler Stone and Emily Claire Worthey.

Kevin Hudson won the Creativity in Mathematics Award.

The Proficiency in Spanish Award went to Meredith Briscoe.

Abby Lewis won the Ann T. Larson Excellence in Writing Award.

The Vance Watt Science Scholarship was presented to Colin Alderman.

The Senior GPA Improvement Award went to Carter Vann.

Abby Lewis is Brookwood's STAR student, and Carol Sheftall, who teaches science, is the STAR Teacher.

The four members of the junior class who have the highest cumulative grade point averages are designated as marshals, who serve at baccalaureate and graduation ceremonies by leading the traditional academic processions and performing other duties. The marshals this year are Jackson Brannon, Kyle Hunter, Danny Steinberg and Katherine Wolff. Each was presented with the traditional Brookwood blue and white sash, which they will wear as they serve as ceremonial marshals.
