IN THE WORDS OF SHAKESPEARE
December 11, 2009

IN THE WORDS OF SHAKESPEARE - Steve Adams coaches Brookwood School English students in readings of scenes from Romeo and Juliet. The Brookwood English Department will stage a school-wide celebration next April, culminating in a program on the evening of Shakespeare's birthday, April 23, featuring Upper School students presenting short scenes from several of the Bard's plays. Carolyn Nicholson is coordinator of the event, with assistance from her fellow English faculty members Ann Larson, Mona Lewis, and Vic Spigener. Adams, the guest director of the program, will hold a number of workshops with students in preparation for the event.

SHAKESPEARE SCHOLARS -- Brent Griffin, one of the guest lecturers at Brookwood School on Wednesday, is managing editor of the Journal for Early Modern Cultural Studies at Florida State University, where he teaches Shakespeare. He is spearheading a new FSU research partnership with the Globe Theatre in London. Here, he works with Brookwood students in sonnet structure and speaking blank verse. Steve Adams, left, is with the Capital City Shakespeare Company in Tallahassee.
