Tom Johnson honored at Bayside Academy in Alabama
October 28, 2009

Tom Johnson taught history and coached basketball at Brookwood School in Thomasville for a decade before he was named headmaster in 1983 and served in that position until 1993. Now headmaster at Bayside Academy in Daphne, Ala, for the past 11 years, Johnson was honored on Oct. 23 with Bayside's new media center named for him.

Attending the naming and dedication ceremony of the Thomas F. Johnson Family Library was a large group of Johnson's friends and colleagues from Thomasville.

Johnson's children both graduated from Brookwood. His son Tom Jr., class of 1987, and daughter Leigh Ann Champion, class of 1989, spoke at the ceremony, reminiscing about growing up with a father who was their headmaster, teacher, and coach, and the values he instilled in them.

Headmaster Tom Johnson is pictured in the front row, right, with his wife Leigh Johnson and, left, Kyle Unglaub, a Brookwood teacher. Also attending the dedication ceremony in Johnson's honor at Bayside Academy are, left to right, second row: Ann Larson, Alice Dickey, Barbara Vick and Doug Vick; third row: Mike Cauley, Wendy Cauley, Bill Dickey, Sherrie Callaway, Jerry Hancock and Dawn Hancock.
