PATRIOTS DAY - To participate in Patriots Day on Tuesday, Kendra Burrus' 5th grade class at Brookwood School donned clothing like the colonists wore during the Revolutionary War period. The outfits were created by Burrus and parents, who wanted the attire to be as authentic as possible. Brookwood was the only school in Georgia and only one of 10 schools in the nation to participate in the special Patriots Day events as a culmination of their studies about the birth of American freedom.
CREATING CANDLES -- Chip Thompson and Jake Shepherd discover the challenges of candle making, as colonists did it in the 18th century. The boys, along with the other 5th graders at Brookwood School, spent all day Oct. 6 learning how the American Patriots experienced life during the time of the Revolutionary War. The day's activities, with students immersed in an 18th century environment, ended with a special candlelit evening event.
