HEROES AMONG US - The Brookwood School community recognizes individuals who are heroic role models to others. The recipients deserve recognition for courage in facing adversity or for providing commendable service to others. This week, Headmaster Mike Notaro presented a Brookwood Hero Award to Susan Waters, a breast cancer survivor who has taught kindergarten at Brookwood for 15 years. Waters, whose maiden name was Susan Secrest, graduated from Brookwood in 1974 with the school's first graduating class. Other recipients of the Hero Award have been Debbie Beeson, a breast cancer survivor who coaches cross country; the late Robert P. Crozer, a Brookwood board chairman and school benefactor; and Mark Humphries, a math teacher and football and basketball coach who donated a kidney to his cousin.
