The Lower School consists of prekindergarten through fifth grade. During these years, Brookwood maintains close communication and interaction with parents, an essential factor in the successful progress of a child.

A classroom becomes the child's home for eight hours. At Brookwood, the second home is inviting and creative, managed by a professional who knows that a positive self-image is the greatest lifelong gift a teacher can bestow. Recognizing that children learn differently, Lower School teachers incorporate visual, auditory, and kinesthetic methods of instruction. Self contained classrooms assure a stable learning enviroment, while some degree of departmentalization enables students to benefit from the special talents of other teachers.

The Lower School has its own art, computer, music and science rooms. A basic, sequential, academic curriculum is enhanced by dramatics, art, music, physical education, and computer training. The Open Court Reading and Writing Series offers a solid foundation in all language skills, while frequent visits to the library add to the richness and breadth of each student's reading experience. Teachers provide enrichment not only for the gifted, but for all students, and individual help is available in every academic area. At Brookwood, the early years of school promote a comfortable, growing independence, the acquisition of fundamental skills, and healthy social development.

In choosing Brookwood for the Lower School years, parents can be certain that they are entrusting their small child to caring adults who will nurture his feelings in an environment which is secure, happy, and richly stimulating.
