Brookwood School presents "The Wizard of Oz"
Posted on: January 25, 2010

Please join over 150 Brookwood School students, parents, and friends as we present this year's musical,  "The Wizard of Oz.."

Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies over the rainbow.   One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away.  At the end of the rainbow, she finds herself in picturesque Munchkinland; home of the fascinating people, the Munchkins.  They start her off on the yellow brick road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, who perhaps can help her return home.  Along the way she meets the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and a Cowardly Lion, who agree to join her journey.  Dorothy must overcome many obstacles including a Wicked Witch in order to find her way back to Kansas.

Performances will be held at the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium on Friday, February 5, at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 6, at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets will be sold one hour before each show at the Municipal Auditorium Box Office.  Prices are:

Reserved                     $20.00 per ticket
General Admission   $12.00 per ticket (adults), $5.00 per ticket (students)

Brookwood's Drama Guild continues a fine tradition of theatre with this year's production of "The Wizard of Oz.."  Past productions include Oklahoma!, Bye Bye Birdie, My Piece of Pie, Annie, The Wizard of Oz, Hello, Dolly!,  Peter Pan, The Musical, Cinderella, High Button Shoes, The King and I, Carousel, Bye Bye Birdie, Annie Get Your Gun, Disney's Beauty and the Beast,Camelot, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Brigadoon.   Proceeds from previous productions have supported both the annual Parker Poe Drama Scholarship Award and other non-revenue producing activities such as the One-Act Play.

The production will be directed by Constance Clineman. Tony Daniels will return to conduct the orchestra and Barbara Lee will serve as the rehearsal accompanist.  Beth Benton will join us as Costume Mistress and Debbie Beeson will again be Stage Manager.  Brookwood students are truly fortunate to work with such talented and wonderful people.  The musical is based on the book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," by L. Frank Baum, published in 1900. A musical play of the Wizard of Oz story, also by Baum, was staged in 1902. The film, starring Judy Garland, was produced in 1939.

Make plans to join us in this very special theatrical experience as we follow the yellow brick road somewhere over the rainbow. We know you will leave the theatre with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.   Please contact the school for more ticket information.
