Each year Brookwood participates in Literary competition with other GISA schools at both the region and state level.  There are a total of 14 events.  These events are; Girls and Boys vocal Solo, Girls Trio, Boys Quartet, Piano, United States and International Extemporaneous Public Speaking, Dramatic, Humorous and Duo Oral Interpretation, Argumentative, Personal and Rhetorical Essays, and Spelling.  Mrs. Barbara Lee leads our vocalists and piano performers.  Mr. Marc Cramer handles our Oral Interpretation performers, Mr. Danner leads the Public Speakers, and the English department assists with our writers and spellers.  Tryouts will be held for students interested in representing the school at these competitions.  All students in grades 8-12 are eligible and encouraged to try out.

The first vocal tryouts are scheduled for Wednesday, November 16 in Mrs. Lee's room after school.  The schedule and times are:

3:30-4:00 guys may audition for Boys Solo and/or Boys Quartet

4:00-4:45 girls may audition for Girls Solo and/or Girls Trio

Please note it is not necessary for performers to have a song prepared for the audition.  Mrs. Lee will teach everyone a song which they will sing individually and in different voice combinations.  Singers for the ensembles will be chosen based on their voice classification and ability to blend and balance with other singers.  A signup sheet is posted outside the music room door.  All students interested should sign up.

Students interested in trying out for other events should contact Mr. Danner as soon as possible.  Tryouts for these events will be announced as they are arranged.

Brookwood has been very successful in the past because of the talented students and their coaches.  We look forward to another exciting year of competition and growth for our students in literary.
