MISSION MARATHON 2011 REPORT:

WHAT AN AMAZING BLESSING!!!!!

OUR VERSE for the WEEKEND was...;."Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity" 1 Timothy 4:12

This is the 2nd year for FCA to host its' Mission Marathon and what a success it has been.  This year, the week leading to it consisted of a fundraiser called Hope to Haiti that was spearheaded by senior, Karen Swann.  This organization sells bracelets for $3 and that $3 can help feed one child in Haiti for a month.  Karen's goal was for each student and faculty member in the Middle and Upper school  to buy one bracelet and we surpassed that goal by selling 310 bracelets which was $930.

The first day of our Marathon, Friday, March 4th, FCA hosted an assembly in our Lower School and another assembly for our MS and US schools.  Motivational Speakers, Anthony and Jennifer Beckham of the Power Unlimited team were amazing with their powerful message about character and making right choices.  After school, approximately 30 students loaded the buses to head to Myrtlewood Plantation where we would be spending the weekend (THANK YOU MYRTLEWOOD!). We spent Friday night fellowshipping with each other and Saturday the work began.

Our first event Saturday was a Manna Food Drop with Second Harvest Food Bank. The FCA students previously raised $500 to host this for the city of Meigs.  We fed 150 families which was 396 people.  Following that, we helped clean the local recreational facility in Meigs.

After lunch, we split into 3 groups.

Group 1= Refurbished the Pavo City Basketball Court and Softball field

Group 2= pressure washed and planted flowers at the home of Lorene Holton

Group 3= Bingo at Belvedere Commons Nursing Home and then cleaned home of Annice Knight

Evening:  attended the Rose Queen Pageant to support the Brookwood contestants

Sunday, we headed to the home of Charles and Alice Holton where students painted inside and out, cleaned the roof, raked, trimmed hedges, pulled out bushes, shoveled mulch, etc.

This weekend would have never been possible without the help of so many from our community, Brookwood administration and faculty, our local FCA, parent volunteers, and of course the willing hands of every student who volunteered.

Thank you for such a wonderful experience!!
