Varsity Girls Soccer Wins Region & Advances to the Elite Eight
The Brookwood Lady Warriors Varsity Soccer Team defeated Georgia Christian on Tuesday, April 24, to win the Region Championship. They finished region play with a 6-1-1 record.
In the final region game Libby Coram had two goals and Logan Petrey had one. Maria Olson, Marielle Youmans, and Logan Petrey had the assists on the three goals. The mid-fielders did a great job controling the game and distributing the ball. They are Liz Olson, LoLo Mason, Winnie Kadis, and Stormy Koch.
The Lady Warriors then moved into the play-offs as the number 1 seed in Region 3. This past Tuesday, the girls defeated the Lady Eagles from Arlington, 4-0. All four goals were scored by mid-fielders. Marielle Youmans gave the Lady Warriors the lead 23 minutes into the game off a great corner kick by Liz Brewer. Brookwood dominated the first half but only scored one goal. At halftime Coach Hogan told them that they needed to finish strong and finish strong they did! Five minutes into the second half, Winnie Kadis scored from about 25 yards out when the goalie came out of the box to get a free ball but couldn't. The ball came back out to Winnie and she launched a shot over the goalie's head for the second goal. About 10 minutes later Liz Olson did something very similar by hitting a hard, low shot when the goalie was out of the box. This made the score 3-0 and the game was ours. But the Lady Warriors were not done yet. With about 16 minutes left, LoLo Mason hit a shot that made it 4-0. Haley Caldwell at goalie had some great saves on three break away one on ones. The defense played solid as usual. Liz Brewer, Kendra Bell, Stormy Koch, Anna Price Olson, Liz Olson and Winnie Kadis kept the Lady Eagles from scoring. Great Job girls. Keep it up.
Results from the Trinity Christian match and season wrap-up will be in next week's eNewsletter.
