FROM THE HEADMASTER...

What an exciting week we have had at Brookwood School.  Our students have shined once again both academically and in athletics.  How fortunate we are that we are as well prepared as we enter into competition with other Independent Schools within the state.

Last weekend our Girls Basketball team played in the State Championship game in Milledgeville.  The Brookwood contingent was very strong including many of our teachers, staff members and parents.  Our girls played a great game and never gave up, but were defeated 50-42.  We are so very proud of this TEAM, Mrs. Stalvey, our cheerleaders, and especially Coach Johnson.  It is through the dedication and work ethic of ALL of our players, as well as Coach Johnson's complete devotion, preparation and love for these girls, that Brookwood went farther than any girls basketball team in the history of our school.  Congratulations to every one of our girls and coaches for giving us a season we will long remember.

On Wednesday at the Regional Literary competition, our students performed with near perfection as they ran away with another Region Championship.  Once again it was through the dedication of our students, and in a big part our faculty's help in preparation over the years, that we again showed another aspect of what sets Brookwood apart.  Congratulations to our Literary sponsor Mr. Danner, and for the great help of Mrs. Lee and Mr. Grooms.  It is now on to state next week for this exceptional group of young people.  Please be sure to read the entire story of the Literary Competition later in this newsletter.

Tomorrow evening as you enjoy the Auction and are preparing to bid on the many great items available, remember that the resources generated by this wonderful event go directly to the School and represent an investment in giving Brookwood students a competitive advantage so they can continue to excel in the classroom, on the stage, and on the field.

Enjoy this beautiful South Georgia weather, and remember to move your clocks up one hour!  My sincere thanks and appreciation to you all for helping "Set Brookwood Apart."

UPPER SCHOOL NEWS

BROOKWOOD CAPTURES REGION LITERARY TITLE (Phil Danner)

Our literary team did a great job yesterday representing
Brookwood School.  Our students were true ladies and gentlemen, they were outstanding performers, and they won the Region Championship in an absolutely decisive manner for the third year in a row.  Brookwood scored a total of 81 points.  The two closest schools scored a total of 33 points each.  Every single one of our participants qualified for the state competition which will be next Wednesday at Valdosta State University.   Out of a total of 13 individual events, Brookwood won 10 First Places and 2 second places. A special thanks goes to Barbara Lee who works with our vocalists and musicians, and Debbie Beeson who assists our kids in innumerable ways and especially to David Grooms who is responsible for organizing the entire event from start to finish.  Phil Danner is the school's literary coordinator.  The results are listed below:

Girls Argumentative Essay - Elizabeth Wedding, First Place
Personal Essay - Katelyn Harrell,  First Place
Spelling - Jonathan Wood,  Second Place
Humorous Oral Interpretation - Kelly Jackson, First Place
Dramatic Oral Interpretation - Anna Carroll Sims, First Place
Extemp Speaking Domestic - Crighton Allen, First Place
Extemp Speaking International - Elizabeth Wedding, First Place
Piano - Lucy Mitchell, Second Place
Girls Solo - Kate Worthey, First Place
Boys Solo - D.J. Grooms, First Place
Girl's Trio - Hananel Mavity, Anna Carroll Sims, Ashley Laramore, First Place
Boy's Quartet - Grant Stauffer, Kelly Jackson, Chase Clayton, and D. J. Grooms, First Place

In a very real way our students' success is shared by every single teacher from kindergarten through 12th grade and their parents who have helped and encouraged them in their academic, literary development and personal development.

Next week our literary team will be tested against the very best from the other regions in our state.  This will require even greater efforts on their part.  Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
