LOWER SCHOOL NEWS (Francine Wright)

The Big Chill
Mrs. Howell's first graders are preparing for "The Big Chill."  The weather reporters at WICE are advising people to bundle up and make sure they are ready for the Arctic blast!  The students have worked so hard preparing for a test, the big basketball game, and the Chorus production.  When the buses are gassed up, the Headmaster must make a decision to carry on with the day's planned activities or cancel school.  Meanwhile, students and teachers contemplate the idea of having a couple of days off...sleeping late, watching movies, having sleepovers and last, but certainly not least, PLAYING IN THE SNOW!  At last, everyone agrees they are all on the same track... to enjoy their day off!  Finally, the snow arrives!  School is cancelled and everyone heads home to enjoy the thrill of "The Big Chill!"

To our friends in Mrs. Howell's class...we thoroughly enjoyed this fabulous, frosty tale.  We would like to thank Mrs. Howell, Mrs. Aspinwall, and Mrs. Lee for their hard work with the production.  Also, special thanks to all of the parents involved for their time and support and to Grayson Durham for the cute snowman cover on the program.

Lower School Chorus Performs for DAR

Under the direction of Mrs. Barbara Lee, the Lower School Chorus performed Wednesday for the Daughters of the American Revolution at The Plaza Restaurant.  The ladies enjoyed songs about liberty and freedom in our great country.

HEALTHY SMILES!!!

This week on Wednesday, Kindergarten enjoyed a visit from dental hygienist, Vickie Dykes with Dr. Sexton's office.  They learned about the importance of healthy smiles!

DAR JAC Winners

Congratulations to the following students for placing in the DAR Junior American Citizens contest:  Mrs. Waters' kindergarten class-honorable mention for their banner, Caroline Deese-third place poster, Kelley Casanova-second place poster, Bradley Morales-third place poster, and Madison Perryman-honorable mention poster.

CLASS OF 2007 BOOK DRIVE

The senior class is collecting new and gently used books to contribute to local organizations.  Books, pre-k thru high school, as well as audio books are being collected in the classrooms.

The deadline is February 28th.  Each class that meets its goal will be rewarded with the opportunity to wear t-shirts for the week.  Thank you for your donations!

LEARNING IS FUN WITH PUPPETS!!!

How do you make doing a book report fun?  By creating puppets based on their favorite character in the book, Mrs. McCall's second graders turned an ordinary book report into something not only fun but magical!  Each student made an oral presentation to the class explaining how they made their puppet.  The project proved to be an inspiring way to get children excited about reading.

Great job on the puppets, Second Graders!

27th ANNUAL BROOKWOOD AUCTION - MARCH 10 - Brookwood Goes Broadway!

Middle School Art Class "Broadway" Quilt    (Maureen Harrer)

Give my regards to Broadway!  Enjoy this beautiful "Brookwood Goes Broadway" queen sized quilt.  You will find many t-shirts from past Brookwood plays in the design.  What wonderful memories this quilt will bring when it is hanging in your home.  The quilt will be on display beginning March 5, 2007 in Chubb Hall.

The quilt was created by Sherry Rowe with the help of her daughter, 7th grade student, Christine Rowe.  Maureen Harrer would like to thank Mrs. Rowe and Christine for their many hours of hard work along with all the people who donated t-shirts to make this quilt possible.

SENIOR PARENTS

Seniors and their parents are reminded that February 26 is the deadline to turn in pictures for the senior video banquet.

BROOKWOOD ALL-STAR SUMMER CAMP

Coach Katie Cass and Coach Shondra Johnson are very excited to provide a summer camp this year at
Brookwood School.  Four types of camps will be offered:  Art Camp, Sports Camp, Cheer/Dance Camp, or Movie and Games Camp. Students will select two camps they would enjoy for each week he/she attends.  Any rising kindergartners through ninth graders may sign up.  Your child does not have to be a student at Brookwood to attend. The dates for the camps are July 9-12 and July 16-19.  Registration forms are available in the school offices. Sign your child up today!  Space is limited!
