FROM THE HEADMASTER...

What seemed to be a normal beginning to a new week here at Brookwood changed quickly Monday morning.  Perhaps by now you may have heard that one of our faculty members will be leaving next week.  Mr. Tony Rogers, History teacher and Director of Athletics has accepted a position with McGraw-Hill Publishing.  Mr. Rogers has been a great asset to the Brookwood family and will be truly missed.  We wish the Rogers' family the very best in this new adventure that will take them back to their hometown in Tennessee.

Over this past weekend Winnie Kadis competed in The Miss Thomasville Outstanding Teen Pageant and along with Ronnie Stripling in a regional dance competition.  Winnie won the talent portion of the teen competition in the pageant with her tap dance to "Go Daddy O."   She also won the Peoples Choice Award, given to the participant with the most votes.  In the regional dance competition, Winnie's dance routine rated "Diamond" and took the overall 1st place award for the evening.  Congratulations to both of these fine Brookwood students!

Be on the lookout for information concerning this year's Regional Basketball Tournament that will by hosted by Brookwood.  We hope many of you will come out and support our teams during the second week in February.

Congratulations to this week's "Warrior of the Week," Crighton Allen.  Way to go Crighton!

We are very excited about all the upcoming events that make us proud to be at Brookwood.  Please take the time to come out and see the many talented students we are blessed to have at this wonderful school.

                                                                                   Blessings,

                                                                                    Mike Notaro

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS (Ashley Harper)

I wish to extend heartfelt thanks to two outstanding teachers, Mr. Tony Rogers and Mrs. Kathy Bond.  Mr. Rogers has been an integral part of the Middle School faculty and a wonderful history teacher to our eighth grade classes.  His commitment to Brookwood School, through his leadership as Athletic Director and his daily interactions with our students, is to be commended.  On behalf of the Middle School teachers and students, thank you for your influence and work with each of us and we wish you the best on your move to Tennessee.

I am thankful as well, for the addition of Mrs. Kathy Bond to our faculty.  Mrs. Bond worked with Mr. Rogers this week transitioning into the eighth grade American History classroom, where she will take over on Monday.  Kathy is a veteran history teacher and a familiar face on campus.  Her kind ways and depth of knowledge will be an asset to each of our students.  I know you all join me in welcoming Mrs. Bond to the Middle School.

On Monday, January 22nd, the sixth and seventh grades will travel to the Thomasville Cultural Center for a performance entitled Out of the Mist, a wood and strings theatre.  This musical performance includes Japanese Bunraku puppets and correlates to the sixth and seventh grade history classes.  Please remind your child that Monday will be a khaki day for the dress code. Additionally, students need to return either the hard copy permission slips they received at school or print the permission slip on the Middle School E-Newsletter.  The group will leave following Middle School lunch and return before the end of the day.  Thank you for your support of our curriculum.

COSTUME WORKDAY - A workday for Camelot costumes will be held this Saturday in the Upper School Library beginning at 10:00 a.m. Sewing expertise is not required; there are lots of "non-sewing" jobs. Come join us if you can for fun, fellowship, and work as we kick off this year's drama production project.

Tune-in for an interview with King Arthur, Merlin, Morgan le Fey, and Mordred! -  Austin Reams from CNS Channel 6 recently met with Grant Stauffer "King Arthur,"  Crighton Allen "Merlin,"  Kate Worthey  "Morgan le Fey,"  and  Colin Alderman "Mordred,"   for a television interview about Camelot.  The Brookwood community will want to watch for this interview and catch a glimpse of our kids and, perhaps, learn something new about the play.   The interview will run through today on  Week in Review which airs at 7 PM, and 11:35 PM

Camelot rehearsals will be at school all weekend.  We will not move the rehearsals to the auditorium until the main set construction is complete.

Volunteers are needed for set construction at the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium on Saturday and Sunday this weekend beginning at 1:00 p.m. each day.  Please bring tools.  You need not be a master carpenter.  We can use people to just hold and carry pieces while the set is constructed.  We need to finish the set as soon as possible so that we can move rehearsals to the auditorium.

 27th ANNUAL BROOKWOOD AUCTION

"
Brookwood Goes Broadway!" Remember to save the date...Saturday, March 10, 2007. As mentioned before, a Chinese Auction will be replacing the silent auction. We will have 7 different tables that will be named for past Brookwood musicals. (ex. "Beauty and the Beast", "Annie Get Your Gun"). Each table will have 12-14 items. Instead of having to bid on each item, you will receive raffle tickets that will be included in the cost of the evening and you will also have the opportunity to purchase extra raffle tickets. You may place all of your tickets at one table or you can spread your chances around! At some point during the Live Auction, we will be announcing the winning raffle ticket for each table and the winner takes all! The Almost Live and Live Auctions will remain the same.

Don't forget that luminaries will be for sale again. We will also be offering the Reverse Auction. This is when you purchase a ticket and you don't want your number to be drawn! The last number left gets to split the money in half with Brookwood! This has been a lot of fun the past couple of years.

Again, the Auction Committee is hard at work to help make this a successful fundraiser for the school! We can always use extra help! If you are interested, the committee meets each Monday at 2pm in the Board Room at school. Thank you!

Hands on Thomas County thanks all our Brookwood volunteers for making a difference in the community. Please remind your students that they are welcome to drop in anytime to read a book to a child or assist with homework help at the Thomasville Community Resource Center (501 Varnedoe Street) and The MNW Boys & Girls Club (219 Fletcher Street).
Thanks,
Jo Ann
