FROM THE HEADMASTER...

What a wonderful Homecoming week we have had thus far!  On Monday we were wowed by the likes of Jack Sparrow and crew abounding in the Middle and Upper School while pajama day was a favorite in Lower School.  Tuesday our academic sides came out as the Nerds in Middle and Upper School and Lower School celebrated color day with their own Pep Rally.

Wednesday's Wild Wild West Extravaganza took over the entire school as cowboys and cowgirls were riding through Pre-K to 12th grade and onto the evening's Powder Puff Football Game, where the juniors won a hard fought battle against the seniors.  At half time our own Warrior Spirit Chief, Crighton Allen, was announced.  After the game, the seniors enjoyed a fiesta at Old Mexico and celebrated their Warrior.

Thursday's poodle skirts and leather jackets kept us as cool as Greased Lightning and lead us into the Middle School Pep Rally, Fall Family Dinner, Middle School Football game, announcement of the Homecoming Court, and the traditional Lighting of the B and Bonfire.  The rainy weather did not dampen our spirits as a huge homecoming crowd came out to enjoy this special Brookwood family event.  Special thanks to Stacey Forsyth, Julie Barrett, Jill Richardson and the entire Parent Council for arranging the Fall Family Dinner and Concert.  A big Warrior thank you to the following teacher and students who helped during the Fall Family Dinner:  Coach Piazza, Lyle Dollar, Tanner Roach, Carter Reed, Ben Braswell, Chad Kelly, Will McGregor, and Isabella Piazza.

Congratulations to this year's Homecoming Court:

Middle School:                Paige Petrey & Ryan Hudson
Ninth Grade:                    Sara Whetsell & Colin Alderman
Tenth Grade:                   Jordan Bell & Chris Brewer
Eleventh Grade:              Marielle Youmans & Sean Bell
Twelfth Grade:                 Kendra Bell, Eve Toomey, Elizabeth Wedding, & Kristen Wilson
Crighton Allen, Dez Jones, Cory Reagin, & Ashton Thomas

Finally, today we showed our Warrior Pride in Homecoming t-shirts and our Brookwood best in an all school Pep Rally.  The excitement builds as we move into tonight's Varsity Football game and the announcement of the Homecoming Court and Queen at half time and tomorrow night's Homecoming Dance.  Please join us for the Varsity Football game tonight at 8 pm, with the presentation of the Homecoming Court and the crowning of our Queen at half time.  We would like to welcome the Class of 1996, who have returned to Brookwood to celebrate their tenth reunion.  Welcome home Warriors!

All Upper School students are invited to the Homecoming Dance sponsored by the Student Government Association.  The dance will be Saturday night from 8:00-11:30 in Flowers Hall and the cost is $3 per person or $5 per couple.   There will be a D.J. to provide entertainment.  Several teachers and an off duty deputy will provide security.

Thank you to the Student Government Association for a job well done.  This week's skits and activities have made it one of the most memorable homecomings yet.  Special thanks to SGA sponsors, Mrs. Amy Stalvey and Mrs. Katie Cass

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS (Ashley Harper)

The Middle School enjoyed a fantastic Movie Night last Friday.  Thank you to the students and parents for making this a successful event.  The night started with the first annual Middle School Pinata contest which provided fun for all as eighth grader Hayes Balfour broke into the fun.  Hayes had help from sixth grader Jackson Harris and seventh grader Leigh Stauffer.  The drive-in movie size inflatable movie screen was something to behold.  The students were at their best as they enjoyed pizza, popcorn, and candy, friends, and fellowship while watching Over the Hedge.  The evening was the first of many great Middle School social events to come.  Special thanks to Mrs. Bird, Mr. Harper, Mr. Hogan, and Mr. Notaro for helping create an awesome event.

LOWER SCHOOL NEWS (Francine Wright)

Thanksgiving Dinner / Poinsettia Sale

It's that time of year again!!

We will be having our Lower School Thanksgiving Dinner on Friday, November 17.  Reservation forms will be sent home on Monday, October 30.

Also, order forms for our annual Poinsettia Sale will be sent home on Monday, October 30.

Please check your child's backpack for this information.

Procedure for Signing Students In/Out

In the event of a late arrival, after 8:05 a.m., the parent must sign the student in on a daily record kept in the Lower School Office.  When the student and parent sign in, the student will be provided a written slip to give to her/his teacher.  (Please see page 67 in the Blue Book - Lower School Handbook.)

Likewise, if your child must leave school early, please be sure to sign him/her out in the Lower School Office.  A note sent to the teacher at the beginning of the day is always helpful.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Reminder - Carpool Loading and Drop-Off Zone

Parents, please do not stop and exit your vehicle during carpool drop-off and pick-up.  If you have to get out of your car to buckle-up or to unload an item from your vehicle, please do this beyond the loading zone or pull into a parking space.

Thank you for helping us to maintain an efficient carpool and to ensure the safety of our children.

Your Cooperation Is Needed

Please remember that there is a secretary in the Lower School Office only from the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  (This is a temporary situation.)  Therefore, we ask that parents notify the Lower School Office of after school transportation plans, ASK arrangements, etc. before 12:00 p.m.  We ask your cooperation in this matter to ensure that your message is received and handled accordingly.

As always, thank you for your support.

ATHLETICS

Cross Country Finishes Strong
The team traveled to Macon this past Saturday and competed at the state cross country meets. Grant Stauffer capped off his cross country career in great fashion, claiming the title of champion for three straight years. He ran a time of 16:03 breaking his own personal record, the course record, and the state record! David Daniel was 7th and Ellen Stauffer was 10th making them all state. Every member of the team that traveled to the event had a personal best time, some taking minutes off of their time from the same course last year.

Congratulations to Coach Debbie Beeson and the members of the team. With the consistent help of her team, Coach Beeson has selflessly overcome personal strife, modeling what many deem as heroic. The Brookwood Family is proud of you all.
