FROM THE HEADMASTER...

CHANGE IN DATE OF GRADUATION FOR 2007

Last December, when we prepared the calendar for next year, it was our understanding that the College Board was going to offer two sets of AP exam dates-an early one and a later one.  We believed that the early dates would be consistent with the current dates and planned the calendar on that basis.  Recently, the College Board informed us that they are not going to use two sets of dates.  Instead they are using one set but moving it later into May.  As things now stand AP exams would be given after our scheduled graduation date of May 13, 2007.

We have moved graduation for 2007 from Sunday, May 13th to Saturday, May 19th.  We will hold the ceremony in the evening at the Municipal Auditorium.  With this schedule we will no longer have our graduation on Mother's Day and the day after the Troupe show.

As a result of this change Middle and Upper School exams will be held on Monday and Tuesday, May 21st and 22nd.  Both days will be half days.  The last day of school for Middle and Upper School will be Tuesday, May 22, 2007.  The last day of school for Lower School will not change.  It will remain Friday, May 18, 2007.

TOWN MEETING

The Board of Directors will host a Town Meeting on Monday, April 10, from 7:00-8:30 p.m., in the Williams Parker Library.  The purpose of the meeting will be to give members of the Brookwood community an opportunity to meet Mike Notaro, the new Headmaster.  The floor will be open for any questions you would like to raise or  comments you wish to make.  We hope you come by and meet Mike.

WEBSITE ALERT

Many of you may have heard of the concerns about the website "Myspace." We have been informed there will be a program airing on Dateline (NBC) Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. concerning this website.  Dateline has hired an undercover police officer to research how dangerous this website is becoming for unsuspecting children.  Concerned parents may want to watch this program Sunday night.

TALENTED BROOKWOOD STUDENTS!

Hunter Hinson, Jackson Brannon and Emmaline Brannon recently qualified (timed trials) and swam in the United States Swimming ,State of Florida Junior Olympics held March 16 through 19 in Orlando, Fl.  These three students swim with the Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club.  (ATAC)   Competing against hundreds of swimmers, Hunter placed 6th, Emmaline 6th and Jackson 11th, in their best events.  Their success is a result of a demanding daily practice schedule that includes swimming between 2 and 4 miles per practice!  We are proud of our students' level of dedication, motivation, and time management skills required to achieve their competitive accomplishments in the pool.

The first Saturday of Spring Break (March 25), the local Kiwanis Club held its annual talent show.  Contestants from Brookwood School were Juniors Kate Worthey and Hananel Mavity.  Kate Worthey finished in first place and Hananel Mavity finished in second place.  Both girls were fantastic representatives of Brookwood!   Kate will now advance to the State Kiwanis Talent Competition, representing Thomasville, to be held in Carrolton, Georgia on April 29th.    Congratulations are in order for both of these girls, who once again demonstrated the talent level we have at Brookwood School.
