ENJOY YOUR SPRING BREAK

STUDENTS AND FACULTY RETURN  TO SCHOOL ON APRIL 3

TOWN MEETING

The Board of Directors will host a Town Meeting on Monday, April 10, from 7:00-8:30 p.m., in the Williams Parker Library.  The purpose of the meeting will be to give members of the Brookwood community an opportunity to meet Mike Notaro, the new Headmaster.  The floor will be open for any questions you would like to raise or  comments you wish to make.  We hope you come by and meet Mike.

UPPER SCHOOL TRIP TO ASF

All students in grades 9-12 boarded charter buses early Tuesday morning for a trip to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival Theater in
Montgomery, Alabama.  The renowned playhouse presented "To Kill a Mockingbird" in its main theater, the Festival, while "Twelfth Night" played downstairs in the Octagon, a small theater-in-the-round with bleachers on four sides.  Both productions were outstanding, and students enjoyed seeing their reading come to life.  As usual, the ASF staff complimented our students' appearance and behavior.  After the play everyone had lunch in the food court of a mall and had an opportunity to go ice skating.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

The faculty and staff would like to thank all the parents who prepared the delicious food for our lunches this week, helped with cafeteria duties, and coordinated the baskets for the
Lower School teachers.  We particularly thank Laurie Simmons for her expert planning, preparation, and presentation, including the lovely roses and orchids.  We feel much appreciated, and we hope you do, also.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK...A NOTE FROM LAURIE SIMMONS and PARENT COUNCIL

Thank you to all parents and students for your participation in our Teacher Appreciation Week.  The teachers and staff enjoyed food, fellowship and a little time for themselves. Special thanks to Audrey Alderman, Otis Bass, Carolyn Betters, Debbie Davis, Stacey Forsyth, Dale Gurley, Vickie Malloy, Jill Richardson, Laura Shores, Karen Stauffer, Becca Steinberg, Elizabeth Young, and to all the parents that pitched in to cover the lunch shifts.  Please give Parent Council your suggestions for next year or any new ideas to show our gratitude to this deserving group.    Thank you for taking the time to help out with Teacher Appreciation Week!

WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE TO HOST A FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT?

Would you and your family be interested in hosting an exchange student at Brookwood next year?  It is not too early to be thinking about the topic and exploring it.  The Averas have been doing just that this year with Santiago Romo of Ecuador and are having a great experience.  Last spring the Averas made contact with AYUSA (Academic Year in the USA), a not-for-profit organization authorized by the U.S. State Department to place over 2,000 foreign high school students in American high schools each year.  You can check out this program at the AYUSA website www.ayusa.org.  Without any obligation, you can also contact Steve or Anne Avera at 228-6410 who would be glad to answer any of your questions about hosting an exchange student.

DRAMA GUILD SCHOLARSHIP

Brookwood School is pleased to announce that the Brookwood Drama Guild will once again be awarding scholarships this spring to eligible students who meet the criteria.  The criteria is as follows:

1-  The student must have participated in a Drama Guild Production this school year.

2-  The student must be enrolled in Brookwood School (every age/grade is eligible, Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools).

3-  The student must submit an application for consideration for the scholarship in the form of a letter of intent.   That letter must be received by the Scholarship Committee by the deadline date (April 7th this year).

4-  The student must use the scholarship money to further their studies in the arts.  (That includes dance, music, visual arts, drama, etc.)  The money may also be applied to the Brookwood tuition fee.

The letter of intent should be typed and submitted in a sealed envelope.  This envelop should be addressed to "The Scholarship Committee."  It must be submitted to Mr. Grooms no later than April 7, 2006.  All letters should be placed in Mr. Grooms mailbox in the Upper School office.  The letter of intent should include:

1-  A brief history of involvement in drama at Brookwood, drama in the community, etc.

2-  A summary of what drama means to the student personally.

3-  An explanation of how the student intends to use the scholarship money.

So, please give some careful consideration to applying for the Drama Guild scholarships this year.  You have worked hard in your craft.  You are eligible for these scholarship awards.  You all are deserving of these awards.  But the deadline for applying will be here very soon.  Don't wait until the last minute to write your letter of intent.  Begin working on it now so that you will have sufficient time to present your thoughts in the very best way you can.

If you have any questions about the Drama Guild Scholarships for 2006, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Grooms at school, or myself at 850-926-3328 or 30 Bayou Road, Crawfordville, Flordia 32327.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Clineman
