FROM THE HEADMASTER...

Brookwood Wins Literary for Second Consecutive Year

Last Tuesday, March 14th in Valdosta, Brookwood's Literary team won the State AA Spring Literary competition for the second year in a row.  The points we amassed in the Spring competition combined with our points in the One Act competition in the Fall and Debate in February meant that once again Brookwood was the overall Literary winner among AA schools in GISA.

Juniors led the School to victory this year.  Elizabeth Wedding won a 1st in Girls Argumentative Essay and a 2nd in Girls Extemporaneous Speaking; Crighton Allen recorded the first ever perfect score in winning the Boys Extemporaneous Speaking; and Anna Carroll Sims won a 1st in Girls Oral Interpretation.  Michael Nicholson captured a 2nd in Boys Oral Interpretation and was a member of the Quartet that finished 3rd, two points behind the first place winner.  Other members of the Quartet were juniors Chase Clayton and Grant Stauffer and freshman D.J. Grooms.  Another junior, Hananel Mavity placed 4th in the Girls Solo and D.J. Grooms also captured a 4th place in Boys Solo.

The strength of our Literary Team is shown by the fact that we won points in 7 of the 9 events in which we competed against the best from the other regions across the state.  The strength of the arts at Brookwood is emphasized by the fact that as winners graduate, others stand up to take their place and continue the winning tradition.  We also have strength in our faculty leadership.  Connie Clineman in One Act, Phil Danner in Debate and Barbara Lee in music all provide our students with superior instruction and support.

Our congratulations to all of our students who participated in One Act, Debate and Literary this year.  We are proud that your talents have been recognized by others and we are especially that we can count you as members of the Brookwood community.
