This year's debate topic is: The United States federal government should substantially decrease its authority either to detain without charge or to search without probable cause. The debate team is coached by Mr. Phil Danner. The team will be traveling to Macon for the Stratford Invitational Tournament in early December.
BUDDY HALLOWEEN
The Chubb Center was rockin' and rollin' with "The Monster Mash" as the buddies celebrated Halloween together last week. Seniors danced their way into the darkened room dressed in elaborate Halloween costumes. There were Disney princesses, a fairy, Shrek, a clown, two crayons, two Cats in Hats, Zorro, a baby, Snow White, Indians, a banana, Barbie, and a caveman among others. Visit the Brookwood web site for pictures. After the first grade circled up and did a surprise BOO! for the seniors, the pairs got down to the fun business of learning more about each other. After a dance contest, the buddies exchanged Halloween treats and said farewell until the next get together.

DRIVER EDUCATION
Tony Rogers will be teaching Driver's Education which will be offered in December with driving to be completed by early January. While these dates are during Christmas vacation, previous times seemed to have too many conflicts, such as exams.
1. The cost for taking Driver's Education is $175.00 for Brookwood students. 2. Registration forms can be picked up at the front office. 3. The only pre-requisite for taking the course is a current driver's license or learner's permit. 4. The classroom times are Friday, 12/16, 1:00-6:00 Saturday, 12/17, 8:00-6:00 Sunday, 12/18, 1:00-6:00 Monday, 12/19, 8:00-6:00 5. The classroom dates are non-flexible (meaning they must attend these dates). This constitutes the mandatory classroom requirement of 30 hours per student. 6. The driving time of 6 hours per student will be assigned during the 1st week of the Christmas Holiday and after school during the weeks beginning following the 1st of the year. Driving times will be scheduled to end by January 15.
If you are interested in Driver's Education but have a conflict with these dates, Brookwood intends to offer Driver's Education classes this summer.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE WORK ON DISPLAY
The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science students have some of their work on display in the Williams Parker Library. The work will be on display through Thanksgiving. Please stop by the library and view their work.
6th grade science students made topographic maps with legends, symbols, and scales.
7th grade designed and made three dimensional plant, animal, or bacterial cells.
8th grade designed and made models of an atom of elements from the periodic table.
Kindergarten and PreK classes thoroughly enjoyed a presentation at the Cultural Center last Friday. It was a puppet show entitled "Dinosaurs" by Jim West. This was sponsored by the Williams Family Foundation. We appreciate this annual presentation by Theaterworks. It is always excellent!
Reminder to Parents - Please remember to notify the school office (vbryson@brookwoodschool.org, lroyal@brookwoodschool.org or 226-8070) if your child is going to be absent.
