FROM THE HEADMASTER...
Another mark of academic distinction. Please let me give you a little background that will help you appreciate the good news I share with you. Each year the National Merit Scholarship Corporation publishes a list of the National Merit Semifinalists sorted by schools within each state. If you look at the Georgia list for this year's seniors, you will find that the independent schools in the Atlanta have a number of National Merit Semifinalists. Westminster has 37; Woodward 9; Marist 8; and Lovett 4. If you look at all the independent schools in Georgia below Macon, you find that there are only 5 seniors who qualified as National Merit Semifinalists. Brookwood has 1; Deerfield has 2 and Savannah Country Day has 2.
The facts above explain why we are very proud of Brookwood's Michael Youmans who is a National Merit Semifinalist. Congratulations to Michael whose accomplishments in this competition truly make him one of the outstanding students in our area.
 BLOODMOBILE ON CAMPUS
The Bloodmobile will be on campus Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 8-4 near the tennis courts. Please join 20 faculty members, Brookwood students ages 16-18, and parents in giving this gift of life. Students ages 17 and 18 do not need parental consent, but we are asking them to bring a signature of parent approval. Age 16 requires a form signed by parents and the minor child. These forms are available from Ann Larson. If you would like to participate, please email alarson@brookwoodschool.org giving a time from 8-4 when it would be convenient for you to donate. You may also call the front desk.
 ITALIAN DINNER
The Class of 2008 is hosting an Italian Dinner at Brookwood School's Crozer Cafeteria on Monday, November 21, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. It should be a fun night for all with good home-cooked food and fellowship. Also, it is the same night as our first home varsity basketball games. Make your plans now to come out and support the team and enjoy "Italian Night" with family and friends. Dinner tickets are $6.00 each and will be pre-sold for the dinner. See any sophomore or contact Sheila Scott (228-5162 or sheilascott704@hotmail.com) and she will reserve your tickets. The menu will include spaghetti casserole, salad, garlic bread, tea & water. The Boosters will still have other drinks, candies, etc., available. Please make checks payable to Brookwood (Class of 2008).
FCA SKI TRIP COMING IN JANUARY

The Middle School Council is sponsoring Operation Christmas Child! Please help us fill shoe boxes with gifts for boys and girls around the world. Beautiful Poinsettias!! When decorating for the holidays, please consider purchasing poinsettias from the Lower School. Reserve yours today. Order deadline is November 18th. They will be available for pick up on December 2nd in the Preschool Building. You may choose from three colors: red, white, and pink. The cost is $17.00 each. DRIVER EDUCATION
Tony Rogers will be teaching Driver's Education which will be offered in December with driving to be completed by early January. While these dates are during Christmas vacation, previous times seemed to have too many conflicts, such as exams.
1. The cost for taking Driver's Education is $175.00 for Brookwood students. 2. Registration forms can be picked up at the front office. 3. The only pre-requisite for taking the course is a current driver's license or learner's permit. 4. The classroom times are Friday, 12/16, 1:00-6:00 Saturday, 12/17, 8:00-6:00 Sunday, 12/18, 1:00-6:00 Monday, 12/19, 8:00-6:00 5. The classroom dates are non-flexible (meaning they must attend these dates). This constitutes the mandatory classroom requirement of 30 hours per student. 6. The driving time of 6 hours per student will be assigned during the 1st week of the Christmas Holiday and after school during the weeks beginning following the 1st of the year. Driving times will be scheduled to end by January 15.
If you are interested in Driver's Education but have a conflict with these dates, Brookwood intends to offer Driver's Education classes this summer.
