Breaking News...Brookwood Reclassified as AAA for Football by GISA

Brookwood School was notified today by the GISA that we will be reclassified as AAA for purposes of football competition for the years 2006-07 and 2007-08.  We have remained classified as a AA school for purposes of other competition.

We have been placed in the Class AAA/AAAA combined South Region for football.  We will have to play all 7 schools in our region and will be able to schedule 3 other schools.  Listed below are the schools in our region and their enrollments in grades 8 to 11 as of  September 16, 2005.

Class AAA/AAAA South Region

School                                                             Enrollment, Grades 8 - 11

*Brookwood                                                                145

Deerfield-Windsor                                                     291

First Presbyterian Day                                               336

*Pinewood Christian                                                  165

*Sherwood Christian                                                  163

Southland                                                                     240

Stratford                                                                        319

*Westfield                                                                     209

* = Classified as AAA and allowed to play for AAA championship regardless of record.

You can look at this region and decide for yourself if you think it is fair or if it meets the test of common sense.  There is a 191 student difference between Brookwood's enrollment of 145 and that of First Presbyterian, the largest team we would play in the region, with an enrollment of 336.

As a matter of contrast consider the Class AA South region which contains the following teams and enrollments:

Class AA South Region

Bulloch                                                             125

Memorial Day                                                  130

Randolph Southern                                        100

SGA                                                                    107

Tiftarea                                                              101

Trinity Christian                                                125

Valwood                                                             100

Windsor                                                              134

There is a 34 student difference between the largest and smallest teams in this region.

Brookwood intends to appeal its football classification.

FROM THE HEADMASTER

More Evidence of Academic Distinction.  We often note that we work hard to teach our students how to write because we think that is one of the most important skills for college and for success in most careers after college.  We emphasize writing in many classes, not just in English.

The success of our approach was recently shown by information we received from the College Board about our students' AP exams last May.  In 2005, Brookwood students performed as follows in the free response or writing section of each AP exam that contains such a section.

AP Biology: 6 out of 8 (75%) of our students scored in the top 25% in the writing section.

AP English:  12 out of 17 (71%) of our students scored in the top 25% in the writing section.

AP European: 12 out of 17 (71%) of our students scored in the top 25% in the writing section.

We believe this performance is confirmation of our program and we applaud our students whose efforts demonstrated the effectiveness of the Brookwood approach in competition with students from the entire nation.
