BROOKWOOD E-NEWSLETTER
Wisdom, Honor, Achievement, Citizenship
September 30, 2005
***FROM THE HEADMASTER
Thank you to the countless parents whose efforts made the Fall Family Festival a wonderful event this year. Based on guestimates, it appears that attendance was excellent. The children clearly had a good time and we all had the pleasure of watching them. Our hats are off to Liz Young, President of Parents Council, and Tory Moreton and Katie Middleton, Co-Chairs of the Fall Family Dinner. They would, of course, claim correctly that they had great help. It was a group effort. Once again you are showing how our parents' talent and energy translate into events that enrich the Brookwood experience for the entire School community.
***WATCH BROOKWOOD STUDENTS ON WALB-TV THIS AFTERNOON
A reporter from WALB-TV was on campus today interviewing Brookwood students for story on our participation with the Thomasville Katrina Project. The interview will be aired this afternoon at 5:30 or 6:00.

***BEAUTY AND THE BEAST AUDITIONS
Auditions will be held on Saturday, October 8, for Brookwood School's production of Beauty and the Beast. Audition forms are available on the Brookwood web site. Please download a copy and return a completed audition form to the front office by October 3rd for each actor. Younger actors will be broken down into groups of ten and assigned approximate audition times on Saturday, October 8th. Actors from the same family will be grouped together, where possible. Grade levels may be mixed to help the audition process. Upper School actors will be assigned times on Sunday, October 9th. Actors from the Middle School may be placed on either day to balance the schedule. Again, audition forms are available on the Brookwood web site or in the front office.
***SHOW YOUR WARRIOR SPIRIT NIGHT
The Boosters Club is sponsoring "Show Your Warrior Spirit Night" on Friday, October 7, at the varsity home football game vs Fullington. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. The Lower, Middle and Upper School grade with the highest percentage of students attending this game will each be rewarded with a pizza lunch provided by the Boosters. Upon arriving at the game, students will need to check in at the Boosters table located near concessions during the first quarter so that your grade receives credit for your attendance.
SHOW YOUR WARRIOR SPIRIT! SUPPORT OUR TEAM COME TO THE GAME!
***REMINDER TO BOOSTER CLUB MEMBERS
If you joined Boosters this year at the Silver, Gold, or Chief Warrior Levels and have not yet picked up your polo shirts or t-shirts, please pick them up at the school's main office in Flowers Hall. If you have any questions, please call Sherriee Kinsey at 228-7794.
***VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR CONCESSIONS
We are in need of volunteers to work in the concessions stand for the Middle School and B-Team games on Thursday, October 6 and Thursday, October 13. If you would be able to help with concessions on one or both of these nights, please call Susan Holt @226-9145 or Sally Qualheim at 227-9281.
***BLOOD DRIVE
The Bloodmobile will be at Brookwood on November 22. If you are a regular donor, please consider giving on that day at Brookwood. We will put you at a convenient time. Blood is urgently needed with the recent national calamities. Donors from the affected places have not been able to give the usual supply. The blood you give will be dispersed locally and to the places that need it the most. Please contact the office if you are willing to give on this day. Faculty and students (17 or 18 years old) are joining together to give blood and make the drive a success. Ann Larson is the faculty contact for this project, sponsored jointly by the Key Club, led by Keith Massey, and the National Honor Society. Please help others with the gift of life.
***BROOKWOOD STUDENTS GARNER AP SCHOLAR AWARDS
Eight students in the Brookwood Class of 2005 have been recognized by the College Board for their exceptional achievement on the Advanced Placement (AP) Exams. Only 18% of the more than one million high school students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit a designation as an "AP Scholar" at one of three levels of recognition.
Tyler Alexander, Jamey Harrell, Brantley Jones and Melissa Lyle qualified for the "AP Scholar with Distinction" designation by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Catherine Nikkel qualified for the "AP Scholar with Honor" designation by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
Kelly Hunter, Haley Rehberg and Lindsey Scott qualified for the "AP Scholar" designation by completing three or more AP Examinations with grades of 3 or higher.
Congratulations to these eight students who achieved an overall average of 4.26 on 35 exams they took while at Brookwood.
