Wisdom, Honor, Achievement, Citizenship
***FROM THE HEADMASTER***
Welcome back to Brookwood. We have had a very smooth opening thanks to the hard work of many faculty and parents. You have begun the year just where you left off last Spring-making a difference at Brookwood. Thank you for your support and continuing commitment.
Over the summer I watched Thomas Friedman's book, "The World Is Flat" climb to the best seller list. I happened to see a program in which he addressed the nation's governors and school officials on the topic. There were students at the session and one of them asked Thomas Friedman, "Since you say the most important thing for young people to take from your book is the idea that you must continually learn and develop new skills, how do I learn how to learn?" Friedman's answer was simple. He told the young man, "Find the joy of learning."
In the final analysis that is what Brookwood is all about-finding the joy of learning. When we enable our students to experience the joy of learning, then we have helped them discover something they will never forget. As we enter a new school year, we begin confident in our mission and resolute in our commitment to devote our best efforts every day to our quest for making sure that every student has the opportunity to find the joy of learning.
We look forward to a good year working together with all members of the Brookwood family to provide the superior educational opportunity that is our hallmark.
***CATCH THE WARRIOR SPIRIT - JOIN THE BROOKWOOD BOOSTERS!
The Brookwood Booster Club is hard at work with their annual membership drive. The mission of the Booster Club is to promote excellence in all areas of athletics through volunteer fundraising and support activities. It is not too late to join and have your name listed on the Booster Donor Board and in the fall sports program. Deadline will be Monday. Steve Johnson, Booster Club Chairman, encourages everyone to become a "player," step up and get in the game. Help our athletic program soar to the next level by joining Boosters and volunteering to help. Membership forms are available in the front office in Flowers Hall. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Harvard, Ginny LeGette, Sherriee Kinsey or any Booster Club member.
***PARENTS FROM QUITMAN, BOSTON AND DIXIE
Would you be interested in a bus that would travel to and from Brookwood each day? A form was available at Registration to express your interest. If you did not complete one and are interested, please come by the office and pick one up. You also may email Karla George (kgeorge@brookwoodschool.org) to express your interest. Parents would be expected to cover the actual costs including driver's salary, gas, insurance, depreciation and maintenance. If interest is sufficient, we will have a meeting of interested parents to discuss the details.
***SPIRIT MAGNETS
Spirit Magnets will be available again this year. If you would like to order a magnet with your child's sport and name, please contact the front office with this information. The magnet will say, Brookwood Warriors; your child's name; and either a football, basketball, soccer ball, softball, baseball, tennis racket, or cross country runner. Magnets will sell for $10 with proceeds supporting the Athletic Department. Please contact Sherrie Callaway if you have any questions.
***ATHLETIC PHYSICALS
We had 55 student athletes attend the free physical offered through Brookwood Athletics this summer. A special thanks to Dr. Dan Mitchell, Dr. Steve Johnson, Virginia Bradford, Sandra Jones, Vicky Bryson, The Eye Center, and the families that participated for making the night such a great success. For those that did not come in July, please remember that it is mandatory that an up-to-date physical and parent permission form be on file before taking the playing surfaces on a Brookwood athletic team. These forms can be picked up at the front office of Flowers Hall.
